We Don't Thank You Enough
You raise
You grow
You help flourish
You teach
And you learn
And you experience
And you impart that experience
On a generation of learners
A generation that needs to be taught
You sacrifice
And you cry
Because so much do you love
You harry and you hurry
And you work your fingers till they bleed
You give them what they want
Neglecting what you need
A provider
A fighter
A rock that supports
A lover
You are a mother
Is there any better job
You nurture from the womb
And you stretch that protection
To the future and beyond
A mother
A shoulder that absorbs tears
A lighthouse in the dark
The job is very demanding
The pay is usually not near enough
The road is very rocky
But you chalk it up
To the endlessness of love
The darkness is visible
And the light always seems to
Hide behind the hurt
And the prevalence of evil
That makes so much harder your job
And the tears in the middle of the night
Never sway your resolve
The benevolent queen
The forgiving angel
The strict discipline giver
The mother
That's all that you are
The woman who gives her all
Because her all
Is what will bring her peace of mind
When they are all grown up

“Waiting for …”
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #30]
~The Official Day 30 Prompt: Write a poem about endings, finishes, finales, etc. Because we've reached the end: great job!~
The poet takes a breath and hangs his head
Perspiration mixed with excitement permeates the air
He closes his eyes, body still swooning to the rhythm he created
Waiting for the crowd to lift him up
Or tear him down
Every sound matters to him right now and yes silence is a sound
His knuckles turn white as he tightly clenches the mic
The front row shuffles
Many voices chatter but it’s all just a muffle
This is the moment he has waited on for so many years
The culmination of blood, sweat, tears and of course hard work
He can hear his heart beating; he can feel the pulse in his ears
He scans the crowded quickly
He picks out who he thinks he has moved
And the guy at the rear hints that he may have more work to do
But he doesn’t let it affect him; he is still waiting on the rest of the room
Waiting for a signal of glory or the silence of impending doom
The clock on the rear wall though obscured by a smoky hazed
Is too clear in his eyes but then again minds tricks are clear that way
What seems like an eternity to the poet
Is only a few seconds
That the once nodding heads needing for a breath
As accolades and snapping fingers begin to fill the air
He doesn’t smile or doesn’t relax
His body and soul just absorbs this moment in time
He knows that he has given away a part of himself
And received something eternal, ethereal
As he walks away with their minds

“Persevere”
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #29]
~The Official Day 29 Prompt: [Prompt 1] Write a poem about exercise. [Prompt 2] Write a poem in the 2nd person.~
Start off slowly and get into a flow
Don’t push yourself to early
There are many more miles to go
Just get those feet moving
Just take one step and then a next and then a next
Get a good rhythm
Don’t think too hard
Don’t worry about the end
Just get the beginning and the rest will come
If you can get your breathing steady
Then your muscles will take care of the rest
Breathe and move
Breathe and move
Then just move
Stretch your legs
Move your arms
Don’t worry if pain starts to appear
If you keep working and moving
That too will quickly disappear
Just keep at it
Just keep doing it
Just keep moving
Just keep running

Creating A Greener Life
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #28]
~The Official Day 28 Prompt: Write a sestina.~
Isn’t this life global
And isn’t this life so integral
As in this world we are human
And we are akin to things miraculous
We are even close to creating life
But we cant keep grass growing, even flowers die
We strive and we reach but still they die
Wasting resources as warming is global
Making riches but ignoring life
Forgetting that everything is integral
And nothing in death is miraculous
And still we call it all humane
Such is the arrogance of us called human
Such is the arrogance of this life
Such is this lie we all see as miraculous
Such is our arrogance about this sacred globe
And in our blinded sight the earth slowly dies
And still we say all we do enhances life
Maybe we should be more concerned with lives
And less with the façade of superiority of humans
And more with what is integral
To stop the decay and stop the dying
Develop a plan more global
And use our mentality to produce true miracles
Lets get together and make it miraculous
Create a plan that extends the planet’s life
Stop the negligent destruction of this globe
Stop thinking that human
Is the only thing that deserves not to die
We can only survive when everything is integral
Integration
We need to come together and bring miracles
We need to hold hands with nature and stop the dying
We need to breathe together and together breathe life
We need to look past human
And see true lining is truly global
Lets let go of the ignorance and create and integral globe
Lets understand that to make humans miraculous
We need to foster an environment where no life dies

Attempt #9
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #27]
~The Official Day 27 Prompt: Write a poem that is only one-half of a two-person conversation, or what I like to call the "one side of a phone line" poem.~
What do you want?
No. Really. What do you want?
Ok I’m listening.
No.
No.
No.
Listen I really don’t care if...
Yes I remember our last conversation
And I told you not to...
Yes what I said then I mean now.
No.
I really don’t feel ...
Will you please stop interrupting me?
But I don’t feel that way anymore.
No, what we had is just that we had it.
And now it’s gone.
Yes I made mistakes and I accept them.
I don’t want a second chance.
I don’t want to go through this again
And neither should you.
Yes I loved you, but that’s not…
Yes I remember the feeling, but…
Yes I know that you love me, but…
Listen!
That’s the problem you always talk and never listen.
This is not about me,
I really don’t care anymore, I just want…
As I was saying, I just want…
I just want to be left alone!
Yes, that’s exactly how I feel.
Goodbye.

"I'm so over gin"
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #26]
~The Official Day 26 Prompt: Write a poem with the title of "I'm so over (_____)." You get to choose what you're "so over" with, and write a poem about it.~
You were my best friend and many times
My only friend
Late Friday nights all alone and by myself
You kept me company
And made me smile
Made me laugh at things
That I wouldn’t normally even find funny
If someone paid me to laugh
To gave me courage to make that call
To that girl I met yesterday at the mall
But then things change
And you became a demanding witch
Expecting me to give you all my attention
Expecting me to only be with you
Making me say stupid things
Making me act stupid acts
Making me puke on the carpet
Now I won’t get that deposit back
Because of you even my breathe started to stink
And some malodorous secretions
Even made my beloved cats
Turn their noses up at me
I thought we were cool
I thought we were best of friends
And then you just left me dry
When the money came to the end
But that’s all in the past
And I’ve finally allowed myself to let you go
Excised you like a demon
Kicked you out of the door
Happiness once again is in my life
And my new friend rum
Told me that she would never treat me like that

Asphalt Dreams
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #25]
~The Official Day 25 Prompt: Write an occupational poem today. You can write about your own occupation or that of another. Had a favorite job from the past? A least favorite job? A funny story from a job? Consider these questions before tackling your poem today.~
The sun bakes his back as it bakes
The road that is his task
He wipes his brows and looks down this lonely lane
As the heat brings forth mirages in steamy form
A family of four
Mommy, daddy, sister and brother too
And her smiles
As the steam transforms and shows more
Possible futures or maybe unreachable dreams
But in each one he sees
It something that he wants and needs
Security to take care of himself and his
Ability to productive for himself
Not under another master’s whip
He sees the happiness, a happiness
Many moments of happiness he hopes
Will soon be his
As the skin on his back steams
Before the sweat from his head hits it
Working for today but tomorrow is truly
Where all his goals live
So he wipes the sweat from his brows
As strong muscles succeed today
So that tomorrow
Mirages on asphalt
May become a reality that is his

Decay
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #24]
~The Official Day 24 Prompt: Use a photograph to create a poem. You can raid your dusty photo albums, look through your daily newspaper, scour the Internet, etc. But you must use a photograph..~
(Inspired by: http://www.flickr.com/photos/da-alkhemist/2166340844/in/set-72157603633300565/)
Weathered and old, beaten and used
Laid out and left behind
Aged
Remember the time, shiny
A beauty to behold
Strong
Carrying the weight of many
Moving the word
Supporting
Reliably performing
Those were the days
When the feeling of need was strong
And the glimmers in wanting eyes
Looking achingly, pining
Remember those days
Forgotten and left to disintegrate, putrefy
No longer those days
Just the degradation of all held precious once
Everything decays

Always Tomorrow
[Poem-A-Day Challenge – April 2008 #23]
~The Official Day 23 Prompt: Write about getting older.~
Tomorrow I will love
Love walking down these roads
Roads that intertwine with time
Time as it flows into future
Future days of never-ending strife
Strife leading to happiness
Happiness leading to peace
Peace leading to age
Age leading to knowledge
Knowledge leading to life
Life leading to tomorrow
